Alex Ekwueme University is a public university in Nigeria, it is among the noble universities located in Ebonyi State in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State just 25km from Abakiliki, the state capital.

The university was established in 2011 but started its first academic session in 2012, today it stands as one of the best universities in Nigeria expanding and improving access to quality tertiary education in the country.

Faculty of Agriculture

The Faculty of Agriculture at Alex Ekwueme University trains students to master agricultural skills through their teaching and research helping them create future opportunities for themselves before or after graduating.

The knowledge their students are equipped with nurtures them into being young and focused agriculturists providing food security in Nigeria and across the globe. Graduates of this department not only ensure food security in the country but often find themselves training and engaging more lives in agriculture, teaching them what they know or learned from the university.

Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.

At Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (FBMS) provides a nurturing environment for aspiring medical professionals. The 2011-founded FBMS program equips students with a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, and medical biochemistry to help them succeed in B.Sc. programs and the MBBS pathway.

Students at FBMS develop a thorough understanding of the human body’s structure, function, and biochemical processes in a collaborative learning atmosphere. With this knowledge, they can positively impact the community and the medical field, enabling them to make meaningful contributions.

Departments under this faculty include; the Department of Anatomy, Department of Physiology, and MBBS programme.

Faculty of Biological Science

This faculty is among the largest departments in the university, the departments under this faculty include; the Department of Biology, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Microbiology, and Department of Biotechnology.

The faculty usually admits the highest number of students annually. They have a well-equipped modern state-of-the-art biology laboratory which biology/microbiology/biotechnology students use for their research.

Faculty of Education

The faculty of education was established in 2016 and it is made up of the following departments; the department of Arts and Humanities Education, the Department of Educational Foundations, the Department of Science Education, the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, the Department of Guidance and Counseling Education, Department of Physical and Health Education, Department of Educational Management.

The following units are also a part of this faculty; micro-teaching laboratory, mathematics laboratory, e-library, educational technology laboratory, counseling laboratory, physiological laboratory, health laboratory, science laboratory, and physical laboratory.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology

The faculty of engineering and technology was the fourth faculty, it comprises the following departments; mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Engineering.

This faculty also offers Food Engineering and Agricultural Engineering programs but the two programs are fixed under chemical engineering and mechanical engineering. Graduands of this department certificate will be Chemical Engineering (Food Engineering option), and Mechanical Engineering (Agricultural Engineering option).

Faculty of Environmental Science

The faculty of Environmental Science consists of the following departments: Architecture, Fine and Applied Arts, and Geography.

Faculty of Humanities

The faculty of Humanities consists of the following departments; English and Literary Studies, History, and Strategic Studies, Linguistics and Nigeria Languages, Music, Philosophy/Religion, and Theatre Arts.

Faculty of Law

The faculty of law is made up of the following departments: Jurisprudence and International Law, Public and Private Law.

Faculty of Management Sciences

This faculty covers the key areas of Management Sciences disciplines. The faculty is made up of just two departments; the Department of Accountancy, Banking & Finance, Public Administration, and the Department of Business Administration.

Faculty of Social Sciences

The faculty of Social Sciences is made up of the following departments; Political science, Mass Communication, Psychology, Economics and developmental studies, and Sociology.

Faculty of Physical Sciences

The following departments are under the faculty of Physical Sciences; the department of Chemistry, the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Geology/Applied Geophysics, the Department of Mathematics/Statistics, the department of Physics

Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences

This department is made up of the following departments; Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science, Human Nutrition, and Dietetics

Admission Requirements

To gain admission into Alex Ekwueme University, you must have five credit passes at O’Levels including English and Mathematics.

Other requirements include;

For 100l; 5 credit passes at SSCE or its equivalent in relevant subjects not more than two sittings and an acceptable JAMB score in relevant subjects ie subjects in line with your chosen course.

For 200l (direct entry); Five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, at least two A’level or its equivalent, or NCE or OND with credit passes or possess a good first degree in another field. Other requirements are departmental requirements.

JAMB cut-off Mark:

The general JAMB cut-off mark for Alex EkwuemeUniversity is 180. But faculties like Law and Health and Allied Sciences require 200 and above.

Acceptance Fees/School Fees

Acceptance fee: FUNAI acceptance fee is ₦42,500

School fees for domestic students: Freshers ₦75,500, returning students; ₦52,500

School fees for international students: The fees range from ₦80,000 to ₦600,000 depending on your level and course of study.

Hostel Accommodation

There is hostel accommodation for students who would love to live inside the school environment, the hostel accommodation fee is ₦62,000 per session.


What is FUNAI jamb cut-off mark

180 is the general cut-off mark for aspiring students, if you are applying for professional courses you should at least score 200 and above.
